In the context of abandoned areas the old port and industrial buildings - once used for storing goods and production purposes - are a part of the realty heritage of cities on water which assume great value. Their re-use is seen as indispensable for urban regeneration, bearing in mind their historical-architectural value. The Centre has acted as the organisational office of AUDIS - Association of Disused Urban Areas, which proposes the recovery of disused industrial areas and buildings, considering economic, urbanistic, architectural and environmental criteria (1999-2003). Moreover, since 2000, the Centre has been a member of the TICCIH - The International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage and has participated in virtual forums and other initiatives. |
