The International Centre Cities on Water is a non-profit organisation which was set up in Venice on March 22 1989. Rules for membership of the Centre are based on a Statute which covers Founding Members, Ordinary Members, Associates, Supporters and Friends of the Centre.

The administrative organs are the Members' General Meeting, the Board of Directors, the Chairman of the Board and the Board of Auditors. The activity of the Centre is managed and co-ordinated by the Director.
